School Inspection
After the inspection what will happen?

Following the post-inspection meeting with the entity management team, the inspection team finalize the draft Inspection report. A final report is then forwarded to the entity to enable them to make a written response to the findings, and to include in its response an action plan for implementation of any report recommendations.

The final inspection report including the entities’ response, will be released to the Board of Trustees/Schools Directorate and then placed on the ACTVET Quality Assurance portal.

After a predetermined time period, the Entity will submit a follow-up report to ACTVET outlining their current progress on any recommendations included in the inspection report. The recommendations made in the original report will be used as a basis for any follow-up inspections to the Entity.

During the inspection what will happen?

On the first day of inspection, the lead inspector will meet briefly with the principal/director to introduce the inspection team and to outline the inspection schedule for the day. The lead inspector will request that a copy of the following information is available at the start of the inspection:
  • A summary of the most recent self-evaluation report.
  • The current improvement plan.
  • Teaching timetable and times for the school day.
  • A scheduled time to meet a focus group of students.

During the course of the inspection, the inspection team will take a range of evidence into account when making judgments. This includes evidence of…
  • Students performance and tracking information.
  • Students work and innovation.
  • Effective teaching.
  • Students personal development, satisfaction levels, and evidence of support and guidance for students.
  • Monitoring of teaching and learning and its link to teachers performance management.

Is there a way to appeal an inspection judgement?

Any school/staff member affected by the Inspection process, may contact ACTVETs customer care service at www.care@actvet.ac.ae.
A review of an inspection will lead to one of three possible outcomes:
  • That the inspection report is upheld.
  • That the inspection is regarded as not in keeping with the Code of Conduct for Inspectors outlined in the UAE Inspection Framework, and that the inspection report is amended and reissued.
  • That the inspection report is withdrawn and a further inspection or part inspection, as appropriate, is carried out by an inspection team other than the inspection team involved in the original inspection.

What feedback is likely to be received during the inspection?

The inspectors will be available to offer individual verbal feedback to teachers on lessons observed, if they wish to avail of it. The principal/director can receive verbal feedback from the lead inspector about the emerging findings of the inspection daily.

On the last day of inspection, a verbal feedback session will be conducted by the inspection team with the principal or director and other members of the senior management team. This meeting provides an opportunity for professional discussion and clarification about recommended area of improvements

What inspection standards will be used?

UAE inspection is based on a comprehensive framework of performance standards that define the essential aspects of a quality education. Each standard is broken down into specific indicators and elements, and detailed descriptors guide inspection judgements.
The six performance standards of the UAE Inspection Framework are
  1. Students’ achievement.
  2. Students personal & social development and their innovation skills.
  3. Teaching and assessment.
  4. Curriculum.
  5. The protection, care, guidance and support of students.
  6. Leadership and management.

What is the purpose of inspection?

The United Arab Emirates Vision 2021 has education as its foundation. The purpose of the ACTVET inspection process is to contribute to that vision by evaluating the quality of school performance using the performance standards outlined in the UAE Inspection Framework. The ACTVET inspection process will support students’ outcomes and highlight and confirm good practice in schools.

When will inspections occur and how should we prepare?

ACTVET can carry out ‘announced’, ‘unannounced’ and ‘follow-up’ inspections throughout the academic year. An announced inspection will normally take place over a 2 to 3 day period.
Unannounced inspections are usually completed within 1 day.
For announced and follow-up inspections, ACTVET will provide formal notification to the school in advance. The school may also be requested to complete and return an entity profile form and/or provide a copy of their most recent self-assessment report to ACTVET to support the inspection team.
No other advance preparation is expected from the school.

What are the cases that I can complain about?

Complaints are made against the provider of services which does not commit to the ACTVET regulations:
  • Offering services that are not meeting specifications as agreed.
  • The provider refuses to refund money due to inability to provide services as agreed.
  • The provider is not committed to provided services.
  • Instance of service provided not following ACTVET regulations.

What are the procedures taken when I submit a complaint?

A complaint is submitted through any of the above-mentioned channels. ACTVET Care customer service calls the defendant to verify the complaint. The complainant receives a response within 3 working days. ACTVET tries to bring all the parties together and solve the problem amicably or within the jurisdiction of ACTVET as a regulator.

What are the fees for the services provided?

  • New Training Licence AED 5500.
  • Renew the Training Licence with one activity AED 3000.
  • Renew the Training Licence with 2 activities AED 4000.
  • Renew the Training Licence with 3 activities AED 5000.

What are the requirements for Training center premises?

  • Located in a commercial building or the mezzanine / commercial floor, and completely independent of any other business.
  • Floor area is of 100 m2 (minimum).
  • One training room 30 m2 (minimum).
  • One management room (minimum).
  • Reception area / waiting area with seats.

What are the requirements to have a new Training License?

  • Feasibility Study.

What are the steps followed to obtain the Licence?

  1. Submit the application and the required documents to the Business Center-Department of Economic Development or Licensing Department.
  2. Submit all the required documents through licensing on-line system.
  3. The Licensing specialists evaluate the owner’s documents, assesses the Academic Manager’s documents and interview the Academic Manager.
  4. A site inspection to make sure the center meets ACTVET Licensing Standards.
  5. Pay the service fees.
  6. Obtain the required service.

What is the registration process to deliver National Qualifications?

  1. Complete and submit the Full Registration Form to the Accreditation Section- ACTVET Licensing and Accreditation department.
  2. Provide the documents required for initial evaluation.
  3. The Documents will be evaluated by the Accreditation Team then an initial visit will be carried out to assess the Origination’s capacity.
  4. Carry out an assessment based on the NQA Registration Criteria.
  5. The evidence provided by the center and the inspection findings will be analyzed and a report will be generated.

Who is eligible to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to deliver national Qualifications?

Governmental and private educational organizations in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates (except Dubai) that conduct training programs for different sectors can apply for an NOC to deliver National Qualifications.

What are the steps to be followed to offer a training course at one of the hotels in Abu Dhabi

Ensure that your trainer is approved by ACTVET (you will need to upload the trainer approval notification on their website)
